Your routine is missing some habits!
How building new habits can increase productivity, leadership skills, and more.
Welcome to another edition of ProductiveGrowth 🌱, weekly stories about productivity, leadership, motivation, and anything else that helps us and our teams grow and be more productive. Plus, industry news on the companies, products, and services that allow us to work less and do more.
TL;DR
Happy Sunday! As we grow, it’s harder to incorporate new habits into our routines.
I’ve been trying to not use my phone until noon to foster productivity. This new habit has been tough to stick to, but the reward is worth it. I’ve been able to spend my mornings focused on my top priorities without any distractions.
If we want to become experts, we need to intentionally practice the skills we want to strengthen. Being on time, giving effective feedback, and empowering your reports, to name a few.
All of the habits shown in this issue are effective and easy to implement. I encourage you to start focusing on habits that are best for you and can help you become a more productive leader.
Best,
Steve

EDITOR’S PICKS
📋The leaders we admire work on these 9 habits
You might have grown up hearing that some people were: “born to be leaders." And yes, while some leadership qualities cannot be taught, that’s not the case for all of them. Leaders can also be made, and it takes hard work, tough feedback, and following these nine habits described by Inc. (plus an additional favorite of mine: “be approachable”).
🛫Fostering these habits will unleash your productivity
Sometimes we’re unproductive due to small aspects of our day-to-day like having an untidy workspace or checking our phones too much. These fifteen habits from Fast Company will help you become more productive and efficient. For me, focusing even 20% of my day on important work really changed my life.
👨💼Being an effective people manager
Managing others is no easy job, especially when it comes to large groups of people. Becoming a people manager means empowering direct reports to improve their performance, challenging them, and creating an atmosphere for open communication. By building the habits described in this article by Elizabeth The, we will not only improve our performance but the performance of our people.
⌚Some habits are worth keeping
While I’ve learned lots of things throughout my career, many of them haven’t necessarily been specific to the role I was performing. Often these are soft skills that transcend my job title. Timeliness, attention to detail, and self-care are some practices that we can habitually put in place to become better managers, employees, or family members, and this article from Forbes explains why.
